I’ve recently started working with Corey and it has been a game-changer. “I was first introduced to Corey and Self Sufficient Fitness in 2014. I had never worked with a trainer in my life (much less a virtual one), and I had never done anything more at a gym than walk on a treadmill. I was 300+ pounds, in my mid-30’s, a single momma, and I KNEW something needed to change. I came across Corey’s business because of a shared account we followed on Instagram. I emailed him and basically said ‘I’m not sure if I’m the kind of person you’re interested in training, but I need help.’ And from that moment forward, Corey quickly became one of my favorite humans of all time. He took the time to listen to me and get to know me and my body type as well as my limitations. He’s always been very thoughtful in the plans he puts together for me, and he’s incredibly willing to take my feedback into consideration and work with what’s best for me. He was also extremely patient with my endless questions in the beginning, because I literally didn’t know how to use a single machine at the gym. During the time that we worked together, he helped me lose over 80 pounds, and my body was in better shape than I’d ever known as an adult. On days when I was frustrated or ready to give up, he was a voice of reassurance and encouragement. “Starting around 2012 I had a lot of sharp lower back pain from too much office work and l found no lasting relief from going to a chiropractor, physical therapist or massage therapist. I had been running for years and not really doing any serious strength and mobility training. I started working with Corey about five years ago with the hope of solving rather than just treating my pain. Very quickly Corey was able to figure out that I was out of balance strengthwise and that my hip mobility was way too limited. We worked on a ton of lower body and core using body weight, kettlebells, resistance bands and eventually barbells. My lower back pain disappeared about three months into working together and I haven't looked back.Over the years we have moved on from rehabilitation to more advanced strength training. Currently we're working on developing the olympic lifts, which are surprisingly technical. I feel confident to try these riskier motions because of Corey's focus on coaching proper form. He is terrific at breaking down more complex motions into learnable component steps (try doing a Turkish get-up for the first time ever without coaching!). I am very happy with the progress I've made in the years that I've worked with Corey. His breadth of expertise and adaptability has been terrific; my workouts today are quite different than five years ago. I feel much stronger, more resilient and healthier overall. On the human side, Corey is easy-going and totally reliable. I don't think he's ever missed one of our sessions. I am very appreciative of how much he has helped me over the years - it's been a very worthwhile investment in my own health. Five stars, highly recommended.
