Hey Everyone!
I’m Corey Winard, owner and trainer at Self Sufficient Fitness. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 10 years, and the path has had its fair share of twists and turns. I’ve worked in all kinds of settings—fully remote, in a private niche fitness company, as a top-tier trainer at a high-end fitness facility (where I met my wife!), renting space from local gyms, and now running my own studio right here in the heart of Berkeley Heights, NJ—just five minutes from home.
Outside the studio, I’m a proud husband, dad of two, and dog dad. I feel incredibly lucky to spend a lot of time with my family, taking my kids to their activities, and being home for the big stuff.
Over the years, clients have asked, “What’s next for you?” It’s a fair question. The truth is, helping people is the only long-term plan I’ve ever really wanted. My background as a Funeral Director taught me how important trust is in making a lasting impact. Now, in fitness, my goal is to build trust-based relationships that help people become more confident, more capable, and more self-sufficient in their health and movement.
My training philosophy is built on sustainability—challenging, but doable workouts that focus on form, posture, and mastering the basics. From there, everything else becomes easier. We work on breathing, setup, and tempo because those small details build strength, reduce injury risk, and increase confidence, both in and out of the gym.
I often joke that all trainers do is find 5,000 ways to do the same five exercises. But the real work is finding what works best for you—and persisting. Not for perfection, but for consistency.
Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about me. I’d love to be part of your fitness journey when the time feels right!
