Corey Winard

Hey Everyone!

My name is Corey Winard, owner and trainer of Self Sufficient Fitness. I have owned and been in this business for over 10 years with a lot of twists and turns along the way. I have worked fully remote, in a private gimmicky studio, as a top tier trainer for a high end fitness facility (where I met my wife!), renting from local training studios, and now running my own studio in the heart of Berkeley Heights, NJ;  5 minutes from where I live.

I have two beautiful children and a supportive, wonderful wife who has encouraged and helped me to get to where I am today. When I am not working with clients, I am full on dad at home. I am super thankful that I am able to be home with them a majority of my time and let me tell you, we are NOT above frequenting the local bakery and bagel shops! My wife definitely keeps us all accountable in our nutrition ;) I also am creator and host of a local community, Dads Getting Coffee, where dads and aspiring dads frequent local coffee shops for a short break from the stresses of every day life.

Clients in the past have asked me, “What do you plan on doing after all this?” A fair question as we should always be ready for anything, but my business is in helping people, through humor, knowledge, and empathy (no mistake, I will be hard on you when it matters). Creating lasting and trusting relationships that are mutually beneficial. In my past career as a Funeral Director and Embalmer, trust is what creates a lasting experience. I want to be a part of helping this community become more aware and comfortable with their own health and fitness, to become more self sufficient in their accountability in pursuing longevity and strength. To give 100% of how they feel each and every day.

My main philosophy in training has always been sustainability. Challenging, but doable exercises and progressions. I focus on form, posture, and mastering the “basics” in order to perform more advanced exercises with ease. Breathing, set up, and tempo are paramount in results. These skills will become a benchmark in your personal confidence, allowing you to take what we do, home or on the road, without worry of injury or self consciousness.

I joke that all we as trainers do is take 5,000 variations to do the same 5 exercises. It is about finding what is right for you in your program and being consistent. Not perfect.

Thank you for taking an interest in my life and I hope in the future, I can be a part of your fitness journey!
